12:21 pm. Shit (kind of). I awoke to the sunshine inviting me for a midday walk. On that walk I decided that no matter what happened that day, it was going to be up to me. I made it home. At home I searched frantically for nothing, and found Adelle showering to her favorite late-nineties jam. We giggled and talked amongst ourselves for a moment. Adelle had emerged for the day.
In traditional fashion, we strategically planned for our day. The day was slightly spooky. The facts told us it was February, but it sure felt like March (pleasant sigh).
Matter-of-fact-almost-script-written voice: "OOh kitty in our front yard."
Adelle and I locked eyes briefly. Soon I was lifted up the flight of stairs, and out the front door.
Back into that eerie February sun. Rays guided me to her.
She must have been hungry, for she was rummaging in our broken glass and old electronics bin.
The sun seduced our paths into one another, and I lifted her into my arms.
She was welcome. Her acceptance into my grasp pleased me so.
I brought her inside. I must say, I was worried that Adelle would find her threatening.
Their chemistry was better than I could have planned. Adelle studied her, and found that she actually did not belong with us. She was from another land by the name of "The Hills". She was known there by the alias of "Miss Kitty".
Something did not align just right, because we were certain her name was Chocolate Milk. Or perhaps Miss Ice Cream. Adelle chose to call the number Chocolate Milk was boasting on her dowry.
Robot-White Trash Voice: "We're sorry, the call you have made cannot be completed at this time. The number you have dialed is either disconnected or no longer in service. GTTS."
A fake number? Perhaps we interpreted the sun too literally, but nonetheless we took Miss Ice Cream as a sign. We planned to raise her as our own.
She didn't take well to the others while Adelle and I discussed the new addition to the family.
"Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" she purred.
It was disheartening to hear the amount of anguish she was under. We knew we were going to give her the life for which she had always dreamt.
Miss Ice Cream seemed to find delight in the delicacies we sent her way.
Adelle only had to physically threaten Miss Chocolate Milk a few times. You see, Adelle does not encourage nor condone sassy behavior near the princesses. Miss Ice Creamlate-Fur-Bunny bitched a bit more as the day progressed, but she would eventually warm up.
Doors are the only way we know how to keep our family together, so we put a disclaimer on ours.
MISS KITTY IS OUR TEMPORARY CAT
DO NOT LET HER OUT!!!!!!!!!!!
As our earlier plans unfolded, we let "Miss Kitty" become acquainted with her new habitat.
We found ourselves back hanging out with the sun in some kind of mock jungle.
I was coerced back up the stairs on a whim. Miss Ice Cream was prancing around, illustrating to me her delight in her new home. It was honest, and somewhat unreliable, but in an optimistic manner. In a flash, I heard the door open. I turned around, only to see Miss Chocolate Ice Cream locked in a battle with that fateful leg. The leg that would lead to her anti-success.
In strict violation with the new house decree, "Miss Kitty" passed through the threshold back into the ominous February hazy dazy. I chased her with more delicacies, but she seemed too frightened and bushy-eyed to even care.
Frusturated and heartbroken, I threw her final delicacy into the street where she wandered.
"Throw it all away Miss Kitty, throw it all away, you'll never know. You'll never, ever know again..."
I broke the news to Adelle. Adelle had moved on to a new state while she was alone with that weird sun. Unphased as she was, I could see her pain hidden under her latest whim.
Miss Kitty, if that is even her real name, was gone. Forever.
Legend has it that Miss Kitty ate that final delicacy, immediately returning to The Hills.
Adelle and I looked up The Hills using our finest technology, only to find that no such place existed.
It could have been the silly mood of that February sun, or perhaps it was Miss Kitty's ultimate design, but questions were left unanswered.
After the sun digressed, we felt the tender void Miss Kitty left in our hearts.
Forgotten never, missed always. Our hearts had loved that day.
It was not, however, up to me that day, as it shall never be.
